Spring Freshet

Spring Freshet

There was not much snow cover this winter, but what we had melted quickly in the first weeks of March. That, together with the heavy rain yesterday, brought on spring freshet conditions. If you venture downtown you can see and hear the Androscoggin River roaring white and powerful over the rocks of the Great Falls. In our local woods, streams are flowing where, most of the year, there are no streams at all only shallow gullies. There’s an unmistakable sense of magic at work.

Suddenly a brook
flowing swiftly near the yard–
Gone within a week

Spring Freshet
